We are excited to share that on Wednesday, May 16, the ambassador of the Czech Republic and the consul general of Slovakia will be joining us for a special luncheon at Union Station to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Pittsburgh Agreement, which initiated the creation of the state of Czechoslovakia. The diplomats will discuss the valuable role of the modern states of the Czech and Slovak Republics and the important economic, social, and cultural ties between the Czech and Slovak Republics and the U.S., with particular emphasis on the Midwestern United States.

A small business round table with the Ambassador and Consul General will follow the luncheon as an opportunity for Kansas City area companies to develop their relationship with the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

We hope that you can join us. Tickets are available for $40 (general admission), $30 (IRC member rate), and $20 (students), and special opportunities are available for groups purchasing whole tables ($400) or sponsorships ($750). This program is a joint effort with IRC, the World Trade Center–Kansas City, the Czech & Slovak Club of Kansas City, and Honorary Consuls Ross Marine and Sharon Valasek.

The Ethnic Enrichment Festival is less than a month away. Please, see attached poster. As always we cannot do it without you helping us with our booth and/or kolache making.

Booth helpers needed – Swope Park (festival grounds) – Aug 18-20 – see schedule below:

Please, see the shifts available below. We’d like to have 3 people for each shift – kids can help too with passport stamping.

Kolache makers needed – Brush Creek Community Center (3801 Emanuel Cleaver II Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64130) – Aug 17 and 18 from noon – 6pm:

We need 8 people at all times for the kolache making. You’ll get to learn an original Czech recipe and make kolache from start to finish. If you could bring cookie sheets and cooling racks to speed up the process that would be great too. Please, contact our master kolache maker Hana Buric at hburic@kc.rr.com to get signed up.

Thank you so much for helping us promote and share our heritage.
